Gymkhanas and Horse Shows are OPEN to ALL Riders, however, only Bear River Riders members can earn points when they participate in these events. These awards are presented at our annual Award’s Banquet in November. Please Note: Gymkhana and Horse Show points are kept seperate.

In order to qualify for a Year End Award, each individual or a family member shall meet the requirements of A MINIMUM of TWO (2) hours of total service at Club gymkhanas. A MINIMUM of TWO (2) hours of total service at Club horse shows. These must be spread out over a MINIMUM of TWO (2) events! Please do not expect to get your hours all in at the final event!

To qualify for both disciplines, you must volunteer a total of FOUR (4) hours during the year.

Gymkhana and Horse Show awards require participation in more than half of the events for the year, e.g., if there are 3 gymkhanas, you must ride in at least 2 of them.

*PLEASE NOTE FOR HORSE SHOWS: Points will be awarded according to number of placings per class.
Exp. #1: 3 entries in a class = 3 placings (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) so only 3 points will be awarded to 1st place, 2 points for 2nd , and 1 point for 3rd.
Exp. #2: 10 entries in a class = 6 placings (1st - 6th) so there are a total of 6 points possible for 1st place, 5 points for 2nd, 4 points for 3rd, 3 points for 4th, 2 points for 5th, and 1 point for 6th place.
Exp. #3: 5 entries in a class, 1 gets disqualified (or is just schooling), there would then be only 4 placings (1st - 4th) so 1st would receive 4 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 2 points, 4th - 1 point. This system does NOT apply to Gymkhanas.

GRAND CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION HALTER (APPLIES TO HORSE SHOWS ONLY): There are only TWO placings in this class so GRAND CHAMPION will receive 2 points and RESERVE CHAMPION will receive 1 point.

A running total is kept for each rider, with no points dropped, and no extra points. At the end of the year, points from all gymkhanas are added together to determine end of year placement, same applies to horse show points.

Points will be awarded to a horse and rider combination. You may show more than one horse and receive year end points for each horse separately (can't combine points). A rider can NOT win All-Around and Reserve All-Around in the same year, should that happen, reserve All-around would go to the 3rd place person. You can NOT have someone else show your horse for you and YOU receive the year end points. (This includes Halter).
